Meeting The Need In Healthcare

There is a growing problem in our healthcare system. Depending on social backgrounds, financial abilities, geographic locations along with other demographic, many individuals are not able to receive the appropriate health care necessary for them to deal with health challenges. As we continue to deal with the systemic racial issues in the US, healthcare services continue to be marginalized for communities versus the access for quality care provided for the dominant cultures. The need for more proficient, innovative and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment are skills necessary to change the landscape of our current healthcare crisis. The DBH (Doctor of Behavioral Health) Program at Cummings Graduate Institute provide its student the ability to learn these skills to not only change but improve the overall health system. Let’s discuss these three skills and how they are important to for the consumers as well as the overall improvement of our healthcare system.

Innovation involves deliberate application of information, imagination, and initiative in deriving greater or different values from resources and includes all processes by which new ideas are generated to converted into useful products. The DBH possessing this skill look for the “out of box” thinking along with the traditional process to improve the overall healthcare delivery. This provide new approaches and concepts to deal with the various health challenges in the healthcare arena. providing care than your traditional cost for health care.

Proficient is the competent or skilled in doing or using something. The DBH must strive to maintain proficiency in their delivery of services. There is a statement, “Your reputation is there when you are not present.” Individuals need answer to medical issues and individuals that are able to diagnosis and treat the issue timely and effectively.

The ability to work in interdisciplinary environments are a key element in the DBH. The DBH brings a set of skills necessary to the implementation of an intergraded model in the healthcare system. Many times, the patient has a medical issue, yet the behavior issues that correlates to the medical issue is not address, resulting in the consumer not addressing their overall medical problem.
